“The Globe Cordillera Challenge” is a 40-km bike ride from Baguio City to La Trinidad in Benguet that aims to raise awareness and funds to reforest the Cordillera Mountains.

The event will be held on May 21, 2011. The bike ride will start at exactly 6:00am in Burnham park, Baguio City and will end at 3:00pm at the Provincial Capitol of Benguet, which is La Trinidad.

The primary beneficiary of the project is the Cordillera Conservation Trust (CCT). The Cordillera Conservation Trust is a non-stock, non-profit organization that seeks to develop environmental solutions and integrate modern sustainable development strategies to promote development in the Cordillera Mountain region that is in line with its unique ecological and cultural characteristics.

The activity aims to raise funds for at least 30,000 seedlings which will be planted in the Cordillera Mountains.

When is the Globe Cordillera Challenge?

How many seedlings does the Globe Cordillera Challenge aim to raise?
The Globe Cordillera Challenge aims to raise funds for at least 30,000 seedlings which will be planted in the Cordillera Mountains.

When will the actual forest building activity take place?
Globe employees will return to the area for forest building activities beginning June 2011. Globe’s partner, the Cordillera Conservation Trust will build plant nurseries in local communities in the Cordillera region to help make the project sustainable and to empower the local communities to do their share in reforesting their “homes.”

How can I participate?
You can participate in two ways:
1. Participate as a biker in the Globe Cordillera Challenge.
2. Donate funds for the seedlings to the Cordillera Conservation Trust via GCASH or Bank deposit

How can I join as a biker?
a. Go to The Globe Cordillera Challenge Facebook event page,
b. Click attending
c. Click the registration link/button and fill in the form with the following information:

  • Name
  • Age
  • Address
  • E-mail address
  • Mobile Number
  • Mountain biking event attended in the past year
  • Jersey Size

d. Wait for the confirmation e-mail that will come from Globe Telecom confirming your
registration.
e. Donate Php1,000 to Cordillera Conservation Trust through:

f. Bikers are also required to attend the briefing session on May 13, 2011, 11:00am to 1:00pm at the
Podium Deck, 8th Floor, Globe Telecom Plaza I, Pioneer Corner Madison St Mandaluyong City.

How can I claim my biker’s kit?
The Biker’s Kit can be claimed during the Globe Cordillera Challenge Briefing on May 13 (Friday), 11:00am-
1:00pm, at the Podium Deck, 8/f Globe Telecom Plaza (Tower 1), Pioneer St. corner Madison St.,
Mandaluyong City. Your kit will be given once your proof of P1,000 donation is shown to the organizers
(i.e. GCASH SMS confirmation message, validated bank deposit slip). Your signed liability waiver
completes the registration process.

What are the items included in the Biker’s Kit?
The Biker’s Kit includes the following:
 Jersey (sizes will be subject to availability)
 Cordi Challenge Baller ID
 Biking Sleeves

What is the bike route?
The bike route begins at the Burnham Park in Baguio City and ends at the Provincial Capitol of La
Trinidad, Benguet.
What are the characteristics of the bike route?
The bike route in Baguio City is mostly paved and flat. However, once the bikers reach the surrounding
areas of La Trinidad, most parts of the route are marked with rolling terrain and downhill curves. The
temperature will also be cold, especially in the forest areas

What are the safety measures that Globe will deploy for the bikers?

As a safety measure, Globe will deploy the following:

 Security personnel, local police officers, and 50 biking marshals will be deployed on site
 Emergency Response Teams will be positioned along the trail. There will be first aid stations every 10
kilometers of the trail.
 There will be 40 markers along the bike route and eight rest stations (every five kilometers). Water
and trail food will be available at each rest station

Are there biker groups joining the challenge?
The following groups will join the challenge:
 Members of the Globe Adventure Club, a group of Globe Telecom employees who are biking and
outdoor adventure enthusiasts;
 Bikers from the Ayala Group of Companies;
 The Cordillera Conservation Trust (CCT);
 Local military and police bikers;
 Media Bikers;
 Corporate Partners and sponsors; and
 Members of the Philippine Mountain Biker Forum and Pinoy Mountain Biker forum (bikers’
forums).
